06 April 2007, 02:45 a.m. - Homicide Investigation
At 6:42 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2007 the City County Joint Dispatch Center received a 911 call from an adult female reporting that an individual had just been shot at 15 SE 11th Street space #10. At 6:44 p.m. Officers from the Pendleton Police Department and the Oregon State Police arrived on scene and secured the area. Entry was made into the single wide trailer located at the aforementioned address where a white male adult was found deceased.
Pendleton Police Department officers located Charles Franklin Summerfield, a white male, Date of Birth 02-23-1938 inside the residence. Summerfield was taken into custody for questioning. Summerfield was later transported to the Umatilla County Jail and lodged on a probable cause affidavit charging Intentional Murder.
An affidavit and accompanying Search Warrant was prepared and served at the residence allowing investigators to process the scene and collect evidence. The deceased was identified as a white male adult 49 years old. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. Investigators believe the victim died as a result of a single gunshot wound fired from a 12 gauge shotgun.
The Pendleton Police Department is continuing the investigation with the assistance of the Oregon State Police, Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, Umatilla County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office.
