Agency Summary
The City of Pendleton is the gatekeeper between the Columbia Basin and the Blue Mountains. Pendleton, the real Eastern Oregon, is nestled in the valleys of the foothills of the Blue Mountains. The population is projected at 17, 515 as of January 2010. The Pendleton Police Department is responsible for patrolling over 11.29 square miles. In 2009 the city of Pendleton grew with annexation and significant increase of the Urban Growth Boundry. The community is interested in controlled and structured growth. The economy is stable, but with slow growth it creates challenges for us fiscally. As the population grows so do our responsibilities with calls for service from our citizens.
The Pendleton Police Department consists of 23 sworn officers, four (4) non-sworn personnel and currently two (2) part-time employees. The staffing levels have remained the same since the 1960’s and as you can imagine our calls for service have increased dramatically over the same time period.
The Pendleton Police Department has updated its infrastructure, equipment, training and attitudes to allow us to work smarter and more efficiently with limited fiscal resources. We are constantly striving to improve the services we provide by recruiting and hiring motivated, educated and well skilled individuals who agree with our philosophy of progressive proactive enforcement, deterring and investigating crimes, problem solving, working with and educating the public we serve.
We encourage our personnel to be an active part of our community not only in their professional lives but their personal lives as well.
